What students ask us
Every student’s plan is personal. These answers cover common questions, and our team can talk with you about how support works in your situation.
Your independence
Can I get a car?
Yes. Having a car is possible over time and will depend on your individual circumstances and personal plan of support.
Can I have a pet?
Yes. Some pets are allowed. The Arise team can work with you to determine what is appropriate for your living situation.
Can I keep my phone and computer? Is my technology use restricted?
Yes. Students can bring and use their own phone and computer. Each student has a personalized plan of support around technology use based on their individual needs and goals.
Your people and home
What are mentor relationships like?
Mentors are trained to support you based on what you need and how involved you would like them to be. The goal is to provide support while helping you become more independent.
Will I have a roommate?
Yes. You will typically share a two-bedroom apartment with one other student, but you will have your own bedroom and bathroom. Apartments include major appliances, washers and dryers, and even garbage valet service.
Can I go home whenever I want?
Yes, within reason and as discussed with your parents and support team. We encourage students to visit home for holidays, special occasions, and other meaningful events.
What do students do for food?
Students have a food and grocery budget and typically shop for groceries each week. Food is also provided during many Arise activities and events.
Can I have friends over or stay at a friend’s house?
Yes. Students can have friends visit their apartment and can stay overnight at a friend’s house. As with other areas of independent living, we encourage students to make responsible choices and communicate when appropriate.
Your choices and goals
If I am over 21, am I allowed to drink alcohol?
Yes. Students who are 21 or older may legally consume alcohol off campus. Alcohol use is not permitted on Arise property.
Do students have to attend school or work?
Yes. Students are expected to participate in employment, education, or a combination of both. Arise also has a Productivity Coordinator who helps students set goals and make progress toward school, work, and other productivity goals.
What activities are available?
There is typically an activity available each day, and students can choose whether they would like to participate. Activities range from RPGs and card games to movies, rock climbing, boating, outdoor activities, and other social events.
Can I date while I am in the program?
Yes. Students are welcome to date while attending Arise. We simply ask that students do not date other students who are currently in the program.
Have a question that’s personal to you?
We’d be glad to talk through your goals and what support at Arise could look like.
