Employment Opportunities

About Our Mentorship Program

A mentor will work a weekly shift (Tuesday-Tuesday), attend classes with students, plan nightly and weekend activities, and coach and assist them with a variety of life skills. This includes, but is not limited to, studying for school, grocery shopping and food prep, doing laundry and cleaning their apartments.

We believe in this week-on, week-off schedule so our mentors can be fully immersed in the community during their weeks on. This also allows them to provide more day-to-day continuity for mentor-student relationships to develop, as opposed to the conventional 9-5 and overnight shifts. While on shift, mentors are expected to be “on call” and available by phone 24/7 should an emergency arise, though they are not expected to physically sleep at The Arise Society each night. However, we do have beds available if mentors are commuting weekly and need a place to stay while on shift.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for unique, motivated and highly engaging individuals to join our mentorship teams. The key difference between students and mentors is emotional reactivity, as opposed to age, education or experience. An effective Arise mentor can engage with and relate to students on a personal level. By developing an appropriate yet vulnerable connection, mentors allow students to explore how they can push and pull in the relationship, as well as receive feedback about the impact and impression they leave on others.

Mentors must be compassionate, observant and comfortable navigating the nuances of the mentor-student relationship. Mentors meet with our clinicians weekly to set intentions and goals in accordance with their mentees’ individual therapeutic and academic plans. Mentors must have strong communication skills, be open to feedback, be able to self-manage and have the motivation to take initiative.

Our students’ personalities and interests vary greatly, and we value diversity in our mentors as well. The minimum age requirement is 21. You must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle and be able to pass a background check. Outside of this, all backgrounds and experiences will be considered.

To apply, please submit a resume with references and three letters of recommendation to admissions@thearisesociety.com.
