Activities & Fun

Join In On Our Many Exciting Adventures!

We are located along the Wasatch Mountains in the center of Utah, a beautiful state that offers a safe environment with an abundance of outdoor activities throughout every season, such as hiking, skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, and climbing. Our state is full of natural beauty and incredible activity, from the nearby ski slopes and archaeological digs to the film festivals of Sundance, Park City, and Salt Lake City.

On community activity evenings (usually three or four nights a week), mentors may coordinate major community events of the students’ choosing or students may arrange smaller activities among themselves. Some of our exciting activities include:

  • Concerts
  • Sporting events
  • Hiking and boating
  • Skiing, snowboarding and ice skating
  • Indoor rock climbing and trampoline parks
  • Golfing
  • Movies and board games
  • Food or culture festivals
  • Go karting and arcades
  • Laser tag, paintball, and axe toss
  • Virtual reality spaces and escape rooms
  • Crafts such as painting ceramics, spray painting, knitting, tie dye
  • Museums
  • and more!

We ask that each of our students attend between one to three evening group therapy sessions a week, as decided between them and their therapist. On these nights, the group will be provided with dinner; they may order in, go out to a restaurant, or cook a meal together.

We Value and Promote Individuality and Inclusivity

We emphasize the importance of forming and developing social preferences in order to avoid the typical “program” dogma that everyone should be close to everyone. While we value and promote inclusivity, we don’t want our students to feel forced into being friends with each other; we emulate social settings and dynamics that translate seamlessly into independent adulthood outside of our community.

In their free time, students and mentors take care of tasks like grocery shopping, cleaning and organizing their apartments, doing homework, laundry, etc. On the weekends, our mentors might take students skiing/snowboarding or to sporting events/concerts after they’ve fulfilled their academic obligations. Community activities vary greatly based on students’ decisions during the weekly planning meetings. Of course, in Utah, hiking and outdoor activities are fairly typical. Students may also use the weekend to host meals and activities in their own apartments with assistance from mentors.
