Originally from the suburbs of New York City, Steve engaged early with his community, revealing an intrinsic motivation to foster growth and resilience. His introduction to rock climbing during adolescence provided him with lessons in determination and self-discipline, which later became metaphors for the challenges faced by the individuals he passionately serves.
Attaining his undergraduate degree in Psychology from SUNY Plattsburgh, Steve infused his academic pursuits with pragmatism, developing a rehabilitation program that seamlessly integrated his love for climbing with therapeutic strategies, aiding those with traumatic brain injuries in regaining their strength and confidence.
Broad-ranging Experience and Multicultural Insight
Steve’s journey led him across continents, teaching English in South Korea and exploring diverse global landscapes. This international exposure granted him a multidimensional perspective on human behavior and social dynamics, enhancing his ability to connect and communicate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
Furthering his education, Steve obtained a Master’s in Social Work at the University of Tel-Aviv, honing his focus on crisis intervention, program development, and therapeutic modalities. His work during this period, particularly with the children of asylum seekers, showcased his ability to navigate complex socio-cultural environments and implement programs fostering communal growth and understanding.

Choosing Utah for its close-knit community and accessibility to nature’s therapeutic milieu, Steve has dedicated the past decade to roles within residential, transitional, and wilderness therapy programs, each position compounding his expertise in aiding young adults during critical life intersections.
At The Arise Society, Steve’s dual role as Executive Director and Therapist capitalizes on his diverse experiences and specialization in transitional settings. His educational background and a deep appreciation for nature and culture inform his mentorship, clinical work, and program development approach. Steve finds equilibrium Outside his executive responsibilities through climbing, Ultra Marathon running, and other outdoor activities. Alongside his wife Kara and their two dogs, his pursuits in nature double as a personal sanctuary and a tool for the experiential learning methods he endorses in his professional life.
